Fire Safety Expert (m/f/d)

Hamburg, Stade
Full-time
Permanent employee

About us

Hanseatic Energy Hub is a future-flexible terminal for liquefied gases at the industrial site of Stade. The independent hub secures and diversifies Germany's import demand for affordable energy. In a first expansion stage, an emission-free LNG terminal is to be put into operation from 2029, the infrastructure of which is also approved for bio-LNG and synthetic natural gas (SNG). With the ramp-up of new climate-neutral energy sources, the hub will then also be available for the import of hydrogen-based energy sources.

We are looking for a Senior Fire Safety Expert (m/f/d) to join the Owner’s project team full-time on a major LNG terminal project currently under construction. This is a hands-on, delivery-focused role acting on behalf of the Owner, with responsibility for developing, reviewing and driving the project’s fire safety strategy and implementation across the full project lifecycle — from basic design through construction, testing, acceptance, and start-up readiness.

We are specifically looking for a senior professional with strong experience in industrial facilities in Germany, a solid understanding of applicable fire safety codes, regulations and approval processes, and proven capability in managing engineering contractors, installation contractors and interfaces with authorities and third parties.

Area of responsibility

  • Act as the Owner’s fire safety representative within the project team, safeguarding the Owner’s interests regarding compliance, technical integrity, operability, project delivery and readiness for operation.
  • Develop, structure and maintain the project-specific fire safety concept from the ground up, including philosophy, design basis, applicable codes and standards, compliance strategy, interfaces and documentation requirements.
  • Provide expert fire safety support across the full project lifecycle, including concept development, basic design, detailed engineering, construction, installation, pre-commissioning, commissioning, testing, acceptance, handover and start-up support.
  • Advise the Owner and project management team on German fire safety regulations, codes, standards, legalization/approval processes, authority expectations and third-party requirements relevant to industrial and high-hazard facilities.
  • Review, comment on and technically challenge engineering deliverables, vendor documentation and installation documentation related to all relevant fire safety systems.
  • Oversee and coordinate the work of engineering companies, specialist designers, installation contractors and subcontractors involved in fire safety and fire protection systems.
  • Monitor and manage the execution quality of fire protection installation contractors, ensuring alignment with design intent, regulatory requirements, project specifications and industrial best practice.
  • Support the technical and organizational management of the full approval / legalization process, including coordination with authorities, inspection bodies, experts, insurers and other relevant third parties, from design review through final acceptance.
  • Manage interfaces with project management, HSE, process, civil, mechanical, piping, electrical, instrumentation, construction management, commissioning teams, subcontractors, external experts, and authorities.
  • Review and follow up on design and installation documentation for all relevant fire safety systems
  • Perform and coordinate site supervision and inspections to verify installation quality, identify compliance gaps, deviations and non-conformities, and manage punch items and corrective actions through to closure.
  • Support and/or lead preparation for inspections, authority visits, audits, functional testing, integrated system testing, acceptance tests and handover activities.
  • Ensure that all relevant fire safety documentation is complete and fit for purpose, including compliance records, test documentation, deviation tracking, as-built dossiers, and turnover packages.

You would be a perfect fit if you bring

  • Degree-qualified engineer or equivalent recognized qualification in fire safety / fire protection engineering or a comparable discipline.
  • Proven multi-year experience in Germany in fire safety / fire protection for large industrial facilities, such as LNG, gas, energy, chemical, refinery, or other major process industry projects.
  • Strong practical knowledge of industrial fire safety systems and installations, not limited to design, but including construction follow-up, installation oversight, testing, commissioning and acceptance.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing and coordinating engineering companies and in supervising or steering installation contractors for fire protection systems on complex industrial projects.
  • Solid knowledge of applicable German codes, standards, regulations and approval processes, including experience in dealing with authorities, inspection bodies, external experts and other third parties.
  • Experience advising and supporting the Owner in the full legalization and approval process for fire safety systems and related installations in industrial projects.
  • Strong practical exposure to construction and commissioning, including site inspections, deviation management, punch lists, corrective actions, testing and start-up readiness.
  • Experience acting on behalf of the Owner, or in a comparable role with strong technical oversight over EPC contractors, general contractors and multiple subcontractors.
  • Confident stakeholder management in complex project environments with multiple internal and external interfaces.
  • Fluent German and English (spoken and written).
  • Experience in LNG / gas / terminal facilities or similarly high-hazard industrial environments is highly desirable.
